Central to our philosophy are the coaching skills that are the pre-requisites for the development of an effective coaching relationship:
- Building rapport and trust
- Ethics, integrity and confidentiality
- Asking probing, challenging, thought-provoking questions
- Deep listening and use of silence
- Appropriate challenge and feedback
- Setting goals and success matrices
Recent practices in performance coaching for non-sporting environments focus on non-directive questioning, provocation and helping clients to analyze and solve their own challenges, rather than offering advice or giving direction. John Whitworth stated that “the coach’s job is to help clients articulate their dreams, desires and aspirations, help them clarify their mission, purpose and goals, and help them achieve that outcome”. We believe that this is applicable in any area of life – personal, professional, relationship, health etc.
As professional coaches, we use inquiry, reflection, questioning, feedback, challenge and silence to help clients identify personal, business and/or relationship goals, and to develop strategies, networks and action plans intended to achieve those goals.
We provide space for quiet reflection.
We provide a place for clients to be held accountable to themselves by monitoring their progress towards implementation of development plans. Together, we evolve development plans to best suit the client’s needs and environment. Clients are responsible for their own achievements and success; they are encouraged to develop by taking action. We may assist, focus and guide, but never lead.
We often act as ‘human mirrors’ for clients, by sharing outside, unbiased perspectives and feedback, but we also provide specific insights and skills to help encourage and empower the client towards their goals.
As important as individual professional or personal development, we are focused on the benefits of coaching for your business. Clients can expect the following added value from coaching: benefits from coaching.
